Thanks Guys. So basically a 'fixed price' is just your average British con.
No, not a con, it is exactly what it say, the price of your energy is fixed, the level of your bill is determined by your usage at that fixed price.
Your DD is not your bill.

You need to grasp the concept of how energy bills work. It's not like a mobile contract, unlimited everything, use as much as you want for a set DD price.
Energy companies give you an idea how much your usage is (going on past records/usage) and set an amount (DD) you should aim to be paying. If you use more one month you bill will go up and you have to pay it or be in debt, only the unit rates remain fixed until whenever that date comes then you choose another fix.

Only in the same way that electing to do your weekly shop at Tesco because they have a deal for a pack of apples you want for 89p, then having to pay £29.63 at the checkout because as well as the bag of apples you also bought bread, milk, potatoes and everything else you needed for the week, is a con.

Not at all, for example I entered into a fixed price last November, so even though both the standing and unit charge increased this month the amount I'm paying for my gas and electric will stay the same until this November. I only wish now that I signed up for 2 years!
