few queries i need help with pls read

hi

if my download speed is stated as up to 1mb from the exchange,
and when doing a speed test states between 512 and 1k will my line be able to handle Cable or DSL (256MB minimum download speed)

also,

i am using a lapop with vista. 3 mths old, EI systems EI3103 model
why does it switch off periodically.
techguys just want to repari it
i want a refund, as i lose all data, no warning just boom off, whether battery
full, plugged into mains or on BIOS. its !!!!!!

    My sisters laptop had a similar problem and it turned out to be a faulty motherboard, it was a known issue but unfortunately the laptop was outside warranty and so they wanted to charge to repair it. She ended up buying a new one as it was cheaper!

    As for the broadband, I have no idea what you're talking about, so here is some info that might clear it up for you:

    Phone line connections use ADSL (a form of DSL) and suffer from degraded performance based on your distance from the exchange, generally speaking, most phone lines should happily cope with up to 1mb broadband.

    Cable is a separate service that uses coaxial cables and NOT your phone line, generally it does not suffer from any degradation of performance due to distance from the exchange.
  • Testing your download/upload speed from Speed tests sites are not accurate but provide a possible download/upload speed, as there are many factors which contribute to the results of your results. I have read on another forum that you should try and download a large file, and during the download you should be able to view the approximate download speed on the download pop-up box.

    If you have not had your laptop repaired before and just want your money back then I think that you should be able to do so under The Sale of Goods Act 1979. Here is a small
