Flexible 6 seems to be their standard variable tariff with the October CAP prices, while Flexible 7 is the standard variable tariff that started last Friday.

They will put you onto the new tariff/rates automatically.

Sorry, one is for the Eastern and one for London region, that were the only two I could find in a hurry.

Reason that they ask you to accept the new tariff might be that they are not the real SVT, there is a special clause regarding payment by variable direct debit and you submitting a monthly reading.

Thanks, we’re in Yorkshire so neither of those tariffs will be the ones for us then. Assumed we’d automatically get put on the new version of Flexible 6 post April but expected to be able to find out what rates and standing charges we are now paying before a bill lands.

OP:  My suggestion would be to change your billing to Whole Bill Direct Debit Monthly (You can do this through the website).  You will need to take monthly meter readings if you don't have a smart meter. You will then only pay for what you use and the direct debit will be variable and reflect your exact usage.

Though if you change to paying the whole amount each month be prepared for potentially very high payments during the winter months.

Yip, I'm personally looking at about £300 per month next winter on variable monthly whole amount assuming another 30% increase. So I'm starting to save towards that now. If I stick on fixed monthly, I should be contributing £158 per month on todays prices. I'm factoring in a 30% increase in October, so I'm actually going to be allowing £188 per month starting now for the next 6 months and will recalculate then. A years energy at Octobers prices assuming a 30 % rise would cost me £212 per month.

Variable monthyl whole amount will not suit everyone.

Quite agree - it works for me too as I've described elsewhere. I'm just afraid that people are going to switch to variable direct debit now for some immediate respite during the spring and summer, but then get an awful shock when the autumn/winter direct debits are collected if they don't plan ahead.

People who do not plan ahead are almost always in for one awful shock or another.
  • I think we all need to start planning ahead for next winter! It's going to hurt but the pain will be less with a plan.
