Cannot Register with British Gas
We were taken over by British Gas from Bristol Energy. That process seems to be working well. However we are unable to register with B Gas. After going through the various steps we get a message " Sorry we have a technical problem please try again" We have many times.
Similarly we have tried submitting readings and although we are only requested to provide name and account number which we do this is requested as incorrect.
We cannot find a telephone number or email address to ask British Gas for help. Has anyone a contact number or address or advice as to what we should do. Thanks

You will need to contact them sadly. They will probably end up scrapping the account that doesn't work and start again from scratch. It seems the British Gas software is terrible. Had exactly the same issue myself. The live chat on the website is probably the quickest and easiest way.

I have the same problem, I cannot create a BG online acc. This is a big pain. We have a smart meter and it went blank in April, we carried on topping up and my Wife likes to keep the top up to about £100 for gas and elec. I contacted BG and eventually our meter came back on this month (July 2022) and the display showed only £30. We put more credit on our gas and elec cards, waited 1 hour- no credit, waited till next day- no credit. Contacted BG AGAIN! They said we would have to put the vending code in manually. Checked vids online on how to do it (we are old pensioners) press button A & B same time till stars appear, press A to change to the first digit, press B to confirm, do this 22 times! for all the digits, press and hold A. Bingo, credit goes on, do the same for gas which is in front garden! So I guess all the credit we previously put on is lost in the ether! And no way to check account to see payments. This case has since been forwarded to the Ombudsman who are being very helpful and looking into it. Not holding my breath about getting any of my money back though and since we paid cash, no proof we even put money on the cards which is why I wanted to check online but can't. Such a fiasco! Aparently they have been having smart meter display probs since Feb. Wonder how many more customers have lost money with these rogues?! OK, rant over0
