Problems after Halford fitted new Battery

I took my BMW series 3 2010 E90 into Halfords for a new Start/Stop battery as the warning light had started to appear.

I paid £211 for this service with fitting. Two young lads took an hour to remove and reinstall, they then updated the car computer with a Gadget to register the new battery.

They turned the car on and there were many fault signs on the dashboard, the windows wouldnt open, the headlights wouldnt turn off, the doors wouldnt lock, indicators wouldnt work. They took the battery off and put it back on again, still the same, another hour later they gave up and phoned Carwoods Coventry who booked the car in for the following Tuesday 6 days later, they expected me to drive the car home and then to Carwoods 6 days later with no indicators etc. The young lad from Halfords explained that Halfords would cover the cost and I should take the receipt to the till and they would refund my money which would be about £50

Carwoods determined that it was probable that the cars FWM3 (electrical Module) had blown during the battery change, but this needed to be confirmed by the Main Dealer.
The cost would be in excess of £1000 if it was this module and the guarantee would be for less than 12 months as the root problem could not been found. Carwoods couldnt blame Halfords as it could have been a faulty part, however it wasnt faulty before the battery change. What was clear was that the faults could not be rectified.

The value of the car is £2000 due to its high mileage and age, so in effect it is not repairable.

I have asked Halfords for help but as yet have not responded, can you help with this?

thanks

    Why wouldn't you repair a £2000 car for a cost of £1000?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

The E90 is known for this - a couple of modules including the FWM do sometimes pack in when a battery is changed.
Not really Halfords fault as it’s a common problem, just unfortunate - I can’t see them paying for it.
Unless Halfords acted negligently you probably won’t get anywhere.
Just part of the joy of E90 ownership :)

Could also be the reason the battery needed replacing in the first place. It will be hard to prove a new battery caused the problems.
