Travel Insurance renewal

Options
I have booked a holiday to Gran Canaria starting on May 14. Unfortunately my annual insurance runs out on May 11. Should I renew now and lose a month's coverage from my current policy or wait until May 11. (My wife has some medical problems so the premium is very high.)

Why'd you want to renew early and not just have continuous cover?

A renewal should run from the end of the existing policy. Paying now doesn't mean that the renewal starts now. Even when buying new policies you can have the actual policy start date be some time after you have paid.

Contact the insurer, assuming you are staying with the same one.  From my experience travel insurance for people with pre-existing condition will not auto-renew.

I am afraid if I have to cancel they will say the holiday is after the insurance runs out and they are not liable.

Which is one of the reasons I suggested calling the current insurer.  Only they can provide answers to these questions.
