Claiming on insurance if someone else booked

I’m on a trip this weekend but will not be able to go because of a positive covid result. I booked my own flight but the person organising the itinerary (it’s a stag do) booked the accommodation for us including a room under my name. There’s a non cancellation policy. I have insurance and will be claiming for flights and other costs. Would I claim for the room under my name even though he paid/booked it with his card? Will my insurer pay out on that basis? I’ve no idea if he has insurance.
Surely this is a common situation with friends etc but it’s not happened to me before!
