Parcel signed for but not received

Options
We had a greenhouse delivered that was made up of 3 parcels.  We were not made aware of this prior to delivery.  My 81 year old father in law signed for delivery but delivery driver did not make it clear that he was signing for three parcels.  When we realised only two parcels had been delivered we contacted the company.  They said that there is nothing they could do as three parcels had been signed for.  Is this right?  Is there anything I can do?

You can ask that they contact the delivery company.  It's not true there is "nothing" they can do - they can at least *try* to help you track down the missing parcel.
  • Delivery company claiming it's been delivered when it hasn't 🥲

Yes, but that's an issue between the retailer and the delivery company means nothing.  It's not like you really get a chance to see what you're signing for anyway.

It reminds me of the now outdated practice of signing also confirming the condition of the item received, as if any delivery driver had the time to stand there while you go off, get a knife, unbox it, pull it out of the box, then it's packaging, and "inspect" it...

1/3 of a greenhouse is presumably quite large, do you have details of the delivery company to ask if they still have the parcel? Personally I'd be expecting the seller to be helping find it. The driver should take responsibility for failing to unload the correct number of parcels and the seller should be hounding them.
