Hello,

We are planning a day trip in Europe so depart early morning and arrive in the night. I am looking for a days parking option across several providers at Stansted and it comes to £55 cheapest. The turn up prices at Mid stay park is £25 for a day. Am I missing something? How can a days parking be this expensive?

Any suggestions would be great.

It's probably just that pre-booking is usually for longer eg a week, you might find pre-booking a week is not much more than a day. So may be better to just turn up. Obviously there's the small risk the car park will be full, but unlikely I'd have thought...

Is parking on a side street in Bishops Stortford and getting a train or taxi still something which happens?

They charge those prices because they can and enough people pay, willingly or otherwise.  Getting caught out in the drop-off/pickup areas can get even more eye watering.  My nephew picked his wife up at Birmingham Airport.  He thought he'd made it clear to her that she should only call him once she had her luggage, but he ended up waiting an hour for her = £50 parking charge.  Ker-ching!

I intend to park for 12 hours so can pay a reasonable charge. What is beyond me is the fact that whether I book for 1 or 3 days, it is still the same charge.

What about one of those car parks that keeps your car and shuttle you to and from the airport ?
Presumably they'll do a full 24 hour package (their minimum stay ?) a lot cheaper ?

I suspect that most people in the car park right next to the terminal are on company expenses so don't really care. I know I always parked there when flying for work. When flying for leisure, the mid- or long stay is fine for me.

A better option is to pay about £3 for one of the long stay car parks and use Associated (book to Enterprise House and walk up, you'll save just under a mile and the drop off fee) to get to the terminal. I believe they still have a fixed fare but wouldn't know how much it is.

I believe the long stay car parks are still not open at Stansted. I’ve flown out of there in March and will again in June and our only options to book were mid or short stay.

I'm referring to those in Bishops Stortford (as this is a day trip), not at the airport.

You're not going to be saving considerably for the hassle being caused, however.
