People who don’t tell you off for bumping threads when you make a comment.

Ok, not sure if that’s still happening now, but back in the mists of time it was possible to post comments on competitions just to be sociable without people getting their hair off.
It used to be fun, Now it’s not,
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

There are a lot of things I can think of that I could physically change, but it isn't the forum I would like to change.
I used to wake up and get excited to log on, there was so much interaction, lots of competitions shared, friendships that were built etc. It has just run flat and I can log on occasionally and not many things have been posted either in the chat or new competitions.
I feel guilty if I spend time on other competition sites, so I'm entering much less now, less enthusiasm for it.
Luckily I have other things to keep me occupied - work and illness right now.

If you could change one thing about MSE's comping forum what would it be?
    The social aspect.
There are lots of other competition sites, but this one gave us more of a platform to do our Yearly challenge and connect with people more.

I don't feel this site is much different to when it was the 'old' green forum.
I agree CCC has changed more than the main board.

There used to be loads of threads going with all sorts of random stuff. The Compers Arms was visited and commented on daily. There would be random threads where posters threw their toys out of the pram for bizarre reasons. When you knew who was who even if they set up a new account in a different name.

I miss the endless debates on board etiquette; when is a bump a good bump and when is it a pain in the butt. I especially miss the time the competition posts were bumped by people telling other people not to bump. Guilty myself of that, in my defence sometimes it is hard to resist. Having been on here for over 10 years I would say there has never been a time when bumping was totally uncontroversial.

On reflection though this is something I have contributed to. The last few years although I have been on here entering competitions I haven't really engaged with the forum in the way I used to. I completely missed the thread that resulted in Dave leaving whereas in the past I would have been more than up to speed.

Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.
    (Wisdom, Courage, Self-control, Justice)

Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of what you can’t change

I would put daily entries, such as MD entries on their own thread.

I'd just like for the sort by date to work properly.
Every day I start from the current date, to make sure I've not missed anything, and work my way along until I can't be bothered to do any more for that day. I do this every day, so every single future date gets looked at multiple times in a week. Yet still even today, I've come on the forum and can see a load I've missed from yesterday, even though they were posted weeks ago and should have been in the list all the times I've gone through 06/04 in the last week or two :s
I agree. When I've not managed to keep up to date for a while, I sort by Closing Date and work my way back from the end (today's date) and keep on doing that until I get to Page 1. I should therefore have Entered or Skipped every competition, but when I then sort by Hot, I find a host of comps that I have not seen, scattered over many pages, and have to work from the beginning to  the end in that sort to ensure I've seen everything. Then you think, "What has not been shown in either sort?".
Apart from that, working back through Closing Date sorts is extremely frustrating when the next page shows half of the comps you've just seen from the previous page.
In short, as I've said before, what should be a simple operation,  a sort on data fields, which was pretty much the first program ever created for databases, is in this instance incompetently programmed and any second year University student could do a far better job in a week.

And by the way, for goodness sake make sure these (incompetent) programmers make their changes on a duplicate site and get all the bugs out, BEFORE unleashing it on the live site! Did any of these guys actually study this subject? I taught it for 30 years and it's one of the most important elements of change management; NEVER work on the live site until you've tested all the changes on the dupe.

Well, apart from a forum that works. I think that's a given!

For me it would have to be the addition of a sub-forum for social media only comps. I can't be the only MSEr who gets fed up of trawling through what seems like endless Instagram, Facebook and Twitter comps to get to the ones that are of interest, can I?
I'm with you!  I no longer enter social media comps.  I would also like the ability to 'hover' again (ie preview the competition without having to click on it!)
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

Just like there is a section for linking to daily competitions, have sections for monthly and weekly ones so that end daters don’t post complaining why a particular competition wasn’t posted each week

Posting is a privilege, not a right. This is a privately-owned site. Posting is a privilege, not a right. Any inappropriate posts or any issues that take up a disproportionate amount of resources or make it a worse place to be will be stopped at our discretion - with or without explanation. No one pays to use this site; when there are issues, we pay to resolve them. Sometimes we need to prioritise spending money on the site, other issues or better resources.
Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember, the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue. A Guardian article once "doffed its cap" to this forum as being the one place where consumers can collect together and fight back. Our job is to help keep it that way.

That is what used to happen but, after lengthy discussions, it was agreed that that was not what the majority wanted. It was agreed that monthly and weekly comps would be posted as new threads each month/week and the monthly and weekly link threads on the Regular comps sub-board were discontinued.
