I know, it's not the energy forum ...but is this a smart meter? And how do I take a reading? Thanks.

The LCD screen should show the reading. You may need to press one of the button to activate the screen.
I'm guessing this is in relation to taking readings, and date-stamped photos, so that the energy company doesn't try to charge April-onwards rates for energy used before April?

It's very likely that if you press 9 it will show you the current reading. My smart meter looks very similar to yours although it has different branding, and that's what I need to do (it's the same on both gas and electric meters). Of course, on yours 9 could be the self destruct button...
