Kitchen coil tap

I'm thinking of getting a kitchen tap with a spray hose on a coil like the one pictured here: https://www.tapsuk.com/grohe-k7-chrome-pullout-spout-kitchen-sink-mixer-tap-31379000-p21522

Can anyone with a coil tap comment on whether the thing gets into a mess with limescale and dirt after a period of time? Or perhaps another way to ask the same question is, do taps of this design require constant cleaning? I was thinking a non coil tap only needs a quick wipe down.

  • I've never found a tap of this type which will work with anything other than mains pressure water.  So if you have:
    1. A combi boiler and mains pressure cold at the sink, you should be OK.
    2. An unvented hot water system and mains pressure cold at the sink, you should be OK.
    3. Any sort of tank fed hot and or cold at the sink (cold unlikely), then it is unlikely to work.

As regards cleaning, don't have one, but maintenance is bound to be higher than for a smooth surfaced tap.

I’m option 1 with decent mains water supply and a combi boiler. Aside from looks and trends, the pull out spray taps I’ve used in other kitchens tend to be quite tricky to use. Difficult to manoeuvre and not tall enough to give you space to pull out the spray tap to begin with. I’ve found a Grohe one which seems to address this but the compromise possibly being extra cleaning to maintain it.

My mum has one, can't say I've noticed it getting particularly grubby with scale etc.

She spent much less than the £550 for the grohe one linked to..

Edit - I think it's this one from screwfix costing £69.99

MIL bought one where the pull Out bit is inside what looks like an ordinary tap. That might solve the cleaning problem.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I have them in my kitchen and utility room. I really like them and wouldn't want to charge back. I haven't really noticed anymore work to clean them.

I have had one for years.
No special cleaning & still looks like new.
    Cost about £70 from Toolstation.
That one the OP links to is just an appalling price.
You are just paying way over the odds for a brand name.
Probably made in the same Chinese factory as the £70 ones.

If we do get that specific tap it would be part of our overall kitchen package and likely to be heavily discounted on the bill or thrown in for free even though in reality it probably won’t be.

We’ve already turned down the Quooker tap option. Even though they seem to be the trend for kitchen refit these days. They’ve certainly done a good job of making it into every magazine photo of picturesque kitchens. We like the idea of saving the counter top space but I’m almost certain it will waste a lot of energy and money to power and maintain. Plus I think there’s an initial upfront cost of about £1k!

I have the https://www.diy.com/departments/grohe-get-chrome-effect-kitchen-side-lever-spring-neck-tap/4005176472930_BQ.prd in our kitchen.

The spray nozzle is removable for cleaning (special key/tool supplied) the filters etc.,.  Have water softener so can't comment on limescale.   Otherwise no more cleaning than any other kitchen tap, so far.

High pressure water is essential for Grohe taps like this.  Grohe supply tails that are non-UK-standard fitment - adapters are readily available - but that's your kitchen fitters plumber's problem.
