It's a small suv, not an estate. I'd guess it's not even a skoda.

I'm guessing the reg could be CM21 NNK which is a Ford puma St line in grey, but the lights don't look quite right for that.

Similarly, it's not an Audi Q3 as the reflectors are wrong.

For what it is worth, I entirely agree and the hire company are really not helping. These are obviously two different lighting configurations.

Just a follow up,  after being unable to get through on the phone and then writing another, clearly explained email about what happened(with the photographs attached again) SIXT have emailed me this morning to say they've looked into the matter again, agree I'm not liable, and are refunding the admin fee.

Took a few calls and numerous emails but I got the correct result in the end.  They never answered if they have GPS in the car so I wonder if they did check that and realise I was nowhere near Manchester

Thank you again for the contributions and assistance in this thread. I appreciate the help.

Well done, and thanks for letting us know.
This is yet another case where ANPR has failed, and manual checks/due diligence by all parties concerned have not been carried out post event.

If you have the inclination and the time, you could contact the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police and ask her/him to look into it. You could even complain to, or copy in the Australian Embassy about this embarrassing international incident.

It is not the first time manual checks on an ANPR image have not been carried out.
