Northern Ireland Gas Hike

Hi, as everyone is aware, the cost of gas is increasing on 1st April and it has been said that we cannot top up to beat the price hike. However, I have been told by a few people that this is not the case in Northern Ireland as we don't have smart metres here like in England. 2 people that work in the gas industry have told me that we can top up now to beat the hike on April 1st. Can anyone confirm this if this is true?

Prior to October gas price increase I’ve roped up my meter to 1000 units. Since you are buying units at current price and only storing them in your meter sort to say you are avoiding increase of the price from 1/4
for example before 1/10/21 £49 got you 110 units and after 1/10/21 only 84 therefore by stocking up people benefited greatly. It is predicted that after 1/4/22 same £49 will only give you 51 units.MFiT-T6 #70 -
The problem with gas meters is that even the 'dumb' ones store the next price change ready to switch to it on the right day, the dumb electricity meters don't do that. However if your gas meter is genuinely pre-purchase, rather than pre-pay then it could still work. The difference being that if you are loading your gas meter with a certain number of kWh or units then that could still work, but pre-pay where you are loading it with a monetary amount will probably not work.0
