Aldermore - The dark "digital ages" - asking for certified proof of id in paper...

The last time I gave a physical copy of my passport to a bank was 9 years ago. Today I opened Aldermore 0.95 easy access saver and they are asking me to send proof of identity and a bill. The proof of id has to be certified.... by a priest, dentist or teacher....

Yesterday my wife and I opened the chase account in 10 minutes and we have moved our savings in the day...guess Aldermore won't get our money.

Cheers,
Andy

Electronic ID checking is the norm for Aldermore, as it is for the vast majority of financial institutions, but there's always a manual fallback exception handling process:

    https://www.aldermore.co.uk/help-centre/faqs/personal-savings-faqs/what-account-opening-checks-do-you-carry-out/

To make opening your account as easy as possible for you, we carry out these checks using a number of electronic databases. If we’re unable to confirm your details electronically, we’ll need you to send us some additional documents and we’ll confirm this when you complete your application.

I guess there can be exceptions but honestly the certified copy? It's not worth it..

Yesterday it took 10 minutes with Chase, with Aldermore I need to find a priest to sign a copy of my passport. Not worth the hassle for 0.15 more..

I joined Aldermore without any issues , as I did with many other financial institutions . However a couple asked for more info.
It is a kind of pot luck whether the automatic id processes give you the OK .

Funny how we get three of these types of post in 24 hours.  One of which is berating Chase for requiring a passport for ID.
