PIP

Hi
My daughter has severe rheumatoid arthritis. She and her husband have well paid jobs. However, she might not be able to work for much longer.
I am wondering whether she would be entitled to PIP as she lives with her husband. Thanks

PIP is not means tested. It is based (in simple terms) on the ability to do certain tasks.Life in the slow lane0

As for if she'll be entitled after making that claim, that can only be decided after an assessment.....

Some links to help her see if she meets the criteria for PIP:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria
(She should take particular note of the definitions used for preparing and cooking food - they are very basic so quite a high threshold to meet for that activity.)

Edit: depending on her national insurance contributions for the past few years, she may also be entitled to new-style ESA which also isn't means-tested. It's assessed using similar principles to PIP but the activities are different (albeit with some overlap).
