Visa for United States for holiday (which one?)

Hi,
Wonder if anyone could advise me please?
I am going on holiday to the states in a few weeks. Just looking into getting a Visa (which apparently I have to get).
I’ve had a look and there is a form called a DS-160 on Department of State website. There is also something called an ESTA which you can apply for online.
Just wondered if anyone knew which is the right one or best one to get as it is not clear to me. Thanks in advance.

An ESTA would be easiest. It is not a visa but a travel authority. Should cost you $14.

Just check that your circumstances permit you to apply for and travel to the USA on an ESTA arrangement rather than a full visa.
If you do need a full visa I fear you have left it far too late to get an embassy appointment and visa processing time.0 -
Thanks for your reply. I’m just going for a two week holiday to see friends, so hopefully I won’t need a full visa. Thanks0

The reason for the visit doesn't necessarily determine the visa required. If you are a UK passport holder with no criminal convictions and have never been refused entry to any country, the ESTA should be OK.

Many thanks all. I have applied for the ESTA. Best regards0

It probably depends on the purpose of your trip, doesn't it?

ESTA is absolutely the right way to go for a trip to the US unless you do not qualify for one. If you have to go for a full visa then you are looking at months to get through the process.0

Make sure you use the correct . gov site, last time I got one it was about $14 or so, some charge $$$$$$0
