April 2022 Energy Bill Increase

We have been with Scottish Power for several years. Our bill for gas and electric has been £147 per month (direct debit) on a Super Saver tariff. In January we received an email telling us that we had been paying too much and our account was £931.49 in credit. Our monthly direct debit was reduced to £59. Last night we were called by SP to tell us that our monthly payments from April will be £521.84 - a 900% increase from £59. Even on our previous dd of £147 that's still a 350% increase. This can't be right, can it?

What is your annual usage in kWh for gas and electricity? What tariff are you on?

Doesn't seem likely, but you need to separate out the parts of that estimate...
Has your super saver tariff recently ended or is it due to end soon?
If so then that estimated DD may be for an expensive fixed tariff, rather than the cheaper variable tariff...
Hopefully you have not already agreed to a new fixed tariff recently?
Can you check the tariff you are currently on and when it ends?
Can you also check what your energy usage has actually been over the last year?
Use actual meter readings if possible, not their estimates.

On your previous bills they estimate your yearly UNIT use. Check your meters, read them look at past bills against the current read, updat with your supplier. It's all about your energy UNIT consumption
