While SVT is cheaper for now, only time will tell, after the price cap and SVT rises over the next year or so, if not fixing really was cheaper in the longer run.

My energy price fix finishes on the 31st of May 2022. ... Please can someone help and advise me
@Woody0106 as several others have asked, please let us know how much gas and electricity you use in a year and who your suppplier is. Without this information there's very little we can do to help.

This is the problem a lot of people don't understand that the energy companies are trying to con them into an expensive fixed tariff rather than being upfront and saying just let it roll over to the standard variable tariff which is cheaper.

I'm sure there are some out there that are not being as clear as they could be, but for the most part the emails people are getting are in a format required by Ofgem which forces them to respect the type of product the customer currently has when giving them their cheapest renewal options.
If a customer is on a fix, they must give the customer details of the cheapest fix available, and they must also give them details of the cheapest tariff available regardless of type, so the SVT.
Unfortunately many are now so used to the fix also being the cheapest, they don't read the whole email even when it makes it abundantly clear that variable is the cheapest.
This may, and I say may be the case for the emails but as an example by nan 92 who does not have email was called up by her energy company and was led down the fixed rate path at well over 35% for electricity and 40% for gas higher than the SVT coming in April 2022.

Luckily we have setup all calls to be recorded so that nan can't be scammed and a call to customer services and the threat of Ofgem resulted in them agreeing SVT was the best course and they also offered a goodwill gesture of £100

So where as the email format may well be laid out by Ofgem I fear there are a lot of people being led down the fixed rate path to financial ruin and hardship.
