  • I'm with Scottish Power and have recently been informed that I will be charged an extra £100 per year because my gas isn't supplied through transco. This will be the 40% saving perhaps. So much for my annual saving, It's not as if I live in a rural location, I live on a new housing estate on the outskirts of a town. Any know of any suppliers who won't charge me £100

I'm not supplied through Transco and have never had an extra charge applied although I've been with 3 different companies for gas - seeboard, servista and Telecom Plus (Utilities warehouse).

Try some others as this doesn't seem widespread.

    Hi

I'm really new to this and maybe I'm too stupid to use these cashback links but my current supplier is 'Ideal' through Lloydtsb, energyhelpline don't list this supplier and saveonyourbills couldn't find a supplier in my area [Midlands]

Any suggestions 'cause I think I'm paying out a fortune.

    T
:T £500 saved this year on annual Building & contents cover :T
:T £200 refund from bank for address error & missing bank card :T
    :T * Free * gas and electricity pending supplier's compliance with Ombudsman's decision. :T

I got a door stepper for SE and a price list. Any of the comparion sites are showing other providers as best for me and none of them mention SE. But when I drill down and look at the individual prices of the recommendations - their prices are higher than SE's.
Am I being stupid and missing something?

I think that comparison sites can give you a good indication (by comparing results from different ones) of companies to look at more closely. You should know how much energy you use, and from that check the individual companies' costs that you are ineterested in. Standing charges and unit costs vary from area to area and some companies offer cash back as an incentive. You need to be taking all of these into account when working out which is best for you.

Are the unit prices inclusive or exclusive of the cashback bonuses at the end of a year that some providers offer?
I presume if the bonuses aren't inclusded then maybe the 1st year would work out cheaper as a total - even though the unit prices may be slightly higher??

Depends on the company/web site I believe. You must read the small print to get all the details. I still favour picking the best likely candidates and working them out for my own circumstances individually to get the true best value for me.

I recently discovered that Transo is not a supplier it's a transporter. It seems there are many independent transporters, usually found where there are new housing developments. To find out which transporter is responsible for your gas, look in Google for transporters and you will find the name of the one who is in your region on your gas meter. Then you can contact them and ask your whys.
  • Its worth noting that Telecom Plus Plc offer a no obligation quotation service. You can fax a recent gas/electric bill to them and they run the same bill through on their tariff, and tell you exactly how much they would have charged you had the bill been with them.
