Incompatible In-home display

i'm just got off a very frustrating phonecall with EDF.
We switched to EDF a while again and when we did we noticed that the in-home display for our smartmeter stopped working, over the last few months we've been back and too and never got the issue resolved.
Finally we have been told the smart meter is working, but the in-home display is incompatible with the EDF systems. We asked if we could have a new one and apparently the meter is simply incompatible with the displays they use.
With the energy prices rising the way they are a think its even more important than ever to understand the energy usage in my home, so i asked if they could change the meter and they have said no.
The meter is in working order so they won't replace it, they will only fix it if it breaks. but surely having a working in-home display is part of having a working meter, if it's incompatible then surely they need to replace it?
Any ideas? We have a smart meter but we are effectively blind unable to take advantage of any of the perks of having one such as being able to effectively monitor usage?

The IHD is not an integral part of the smart metering system and is just a little add on. Very few suppliers will replace it when it fails. Just another bit of WEEE generated under the guise of going green.

If you're happy to pay for one yourself there are a couple of third party devices that might be suitable -

if you can live without near real time data then have a look at the BRIGHT app which is free. It will allow to download the same data as your smart meter and you can see data graphical format in half-hourly, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly.

The IHD communicates with the meter using a predefined protocol specified by the meter manufacturer (which is probably part of an industry wide standard smart meter specification). Without the specification, the likes of Hildebrand would struggle to support every type of smart meter out there.Certainly, you could get yourself a Glow display, but if EDF are showing this level of ignorance, I fear you will struggle to get the Glow paired with your meter - Pairing is something that EDF would have to do...
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

What is your make and model of IHD anyway and for completeness what is/are the make and models of your smartmeters?EDF tend to use Chameleon devices (which is what the Ivie Bud I mentioned is). However I was supplied by BG with a BG badged version of a Geo Trio II for Electric and EDF had no issues linking to it when they fitted the gas smart meter a few days after the Electric.
i would how ever, in general agree with FreeBear that EDF seem to be talking rubbish. Have you spoken to their specialist meter team rather than the general customer service agents. I would suggest that if not you ask to speak to them specifically as EDF CS agents are renowned for their inconsistency.0
