My elderly (7 or 8 year old) Logitech M185 mouse has recently become unresponsive. It does work, eventually, but doesn't react to every click, sometimes needing several attempts before it reacts.
I've changed the battery and tried a different USB port. Device manager tells me its working properly, which it isn't! I've also checked drivers (all up to date) & downloaded Logitech Setpoint. Nothing helps and I'm now at a loss.
I'm using it with an 8 year old Dell Inspiron 17R running Windows 10 if that's relevant.
Is it just old & creaky like me? Do I need to replace it?
Any help much appreciated.

Very similar has just happened to my old Logitech. Sometimes stopped working and occasional double clicking. Time for the bin I think.

Cheers. As long as I'm not missing anything obvious. Can't complain so I'll just by a replacement.molerat said:Very similar has just happened to my old Logitech. Sometimes stopped working and occasional double clicking. Time for the bin I think.
Now to research best not-too-expensive wireless mouse.0 -
Common issue due to the microswitches used in the Logitech devices. You can sometimes clean them or fit new
microswitches.
Well known issue and if under warranty they will just send another one and not ask for the old one back. My original one
had a nice braided cable but this ones just a plain rubber one. What are the chances they fitted better switches to this one?
Or is this one cheaper to get me past the warranty period?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
After reading the reply above I decided to strip the old mouse down. Removed a big ball of fluff, gave it a good blow out, pushed the +ve battery terminal back into place and bent the -ve terminal a little and it is working fine.

Too late!
In desperation, I've ordered a new one. Not very MSE, but I wouldn't have a clue how to strip the old mouse down.0 -
Peel off the 2 rear slider feet and there is a little screw underneath each. As simple as that. Since cleaning it out the feel of the microswitches is much better, there used to be a bounce probably caused by muck.badger09 said:Too late!

Seems to be a voltage issue, lower voltage supplied to the microswitches so a bit of dirt or oxidation and the switches
stop responding or you get a double click instead of a single click.
As above they are easy to open, some contact/switch cleaner can be sprayed into them which may cure the issue also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It doesn't have any feet, sliding or otherwisemolerat said:

It has (or at least had until they fall/fell off) three... two round ones and a half moon shape on the battery cover. But there's no need to remove any on that mouse to open it up.badger09 saidIt doesn't have any feet, sliding or otherwise
If the 185 is like my 220, the single retaining screw is under the battery, accessed via the removable cover. Which google tells me it is correct... https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Logitech+M185+Wireless+Mouse+Disassembly/120635
That example is missing one circular slider and the one on the battery cover.
