New car before 1 April

I was wondering if it’s better to get a new car before 1st April or wait till after? And will I get a better price on mine before or after 1st April?
Any help would be great full.
thanks

  • New reg plates are 1 March and 1 September each year.
Are you thinking of this as being the possible reason for a change in price?

No chance of getting a new car by 1st April 2022.  If your quick 1st April 2023 may still be an option if your lucky
  • Yes, I’m thinking more of change in price.
and the dealership is saying to order before 1st April just in case it does change. Obviously won’t have the car before the 1st as there is a waiting list.

If you mean ordering a new car then you would likely have the best chance of a decent deal doing so now as it’s end of their financial year so they will have targets to hit. Which is why a dealer is saying do it before April.

Best two months to order a new car are December and March.
  • That makes sense. And what about selling my old car? Also before 1 April or does that not make a big difference?

Are you wanting to sell it and use equity in your new car deal? If so then you need to do that now with your dealer. They should guarantee your equity, or most dealers are, given the long waits that’s useful.

No thinking of selling it private now, Instead of waiting for 4 months to get the new one and then try to sell it.

Well you should compare what a dealer will offer in part exchange. The reality is many are so desperate for stock they pay over the odds. And the benefit is you get to keep it till your new car is ready.

If you are doing a new factory order you could be waiting up to a year or more for some models.

That then raises the question why do you need a car at all, if you can do without one for four months?  Join a car club and/or hire one when required?
