BG for electricity, EDF for gas. BG won't let me move gas over.

I was with Neon Reef for my electricity and got switched to BG as SoLR. I was with Zog and my gas was switched to EDF. I would really like to be with British Gas for both, but when I try and get a quote on the BG 'My Home' page I am told they cannot offer me a deal and it is best to stay with my current supplier. I really, really don't like EDF and would like to be rid of them. Are we really no longer allowed to switch energy suppliers? I am destined to stay with EDF?

Yes, EDF are a waste of space: I was with Zog who were great but EDF is a fiasco in all respects.
Sadly you probably won't be able to switch to any other supplier right now unless it's at a stupidly high fixed rate.

You're allowed to switch, but suppliers aren't obliged to accept you.
Try talking to BG CS rather than using your account. (It's also possible that your experience with BG CS will be so poor that you'll decide EDF aren't so bad after all.)

I would think very carefully about being with British Gas... My electric is with them, had nothing but trouble, same with my moms account.  The latest adventure is they are trying to move my Gas from EDF, to themselves!  I don't want them to and have not instructed them to move my supply.  I was very clear it was electric only when trying to setup my account (taken over after Bristol energy went bump).  I can't wait till it's all set up and I can move my electric to EDF.  At least the EDF website always works when you want it too!

I've been with EDF in the past and tried to get smart meters. I made an appointment and the company they use didn't turn up. This happened twice more. I received compensation and was allowed to move without paying the usual penalty. Fast forward to just before Christmas 2021 after my electricity had been moved from Neon Reef to British Gas. I asked them to install a smart meter. A BG engineer rolled up at the appointed time, fitted the smart meter. Job done. I then made the same request to EDF for my gas meter. This time the guy turned up but he was unable to get the communication working with the BG smart meter and had to abandon the job. More compensation. That's four occasions when EDF has been unable to successfully fit a smart meter. I now have a working BG electricity smart meter and a dumb EDF gas meter and I can't even move my gas supply to BG so they can fit their smart meter.

Have you phoned BG to ask about switching your gas supply to them yet? As was suggested above I definitely think this is the way to go.

I have deliberately never split who supplies my electricity ang gas. To some extent your various issues are a result of you previously choosing to do so.

The reason many have split their supplies in the past ,was that separation yielded the best prices - certainly in the period from 2015 til late last year anyway !!

Yes. I have tried phoning them but was on hold for 40 minutes and gave up. I managed to get a chat session but all they could do was promise a call-back. That didn't happen.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing! At the time Zog was highly rated and cheap - but they only supplied gas. I'm sure had we known what we know now we would all have fixed a long-term dual-fuel with a big-name supplier. Unfortunately nobody was advising us to do that at the time.
