Thanks for the advice, guys. Really helpful! We fortunately inherited a petrol lawnmower, so I'll just try to maintain it this year and do the basic tasks RAS mentioned.2

Here's a link to some tips from “Gardeners World” magazine:

Also, charity shops often have books for beginner gardeners. Look out for the “Garden Expert” series by Hessayon. It has a suitable title(s).You have a wonderful space — I'm jealous!0 -
If you fancy adding some climbing plants to your fence, I've found passion flowers to be easy, plus absolutely beautiful when in flower.0

You may find the pertol in it is "stale" and will be the very Devil to start, if space allows just add fresh petrol to fix thatOakeshott said:Thanks for the advice, guys. Really helpful! But make it premium petrol if the mower is an older model.....say 2012 and earlier to be safe. The E10 stuff will kill old mowers like my 1985 Honda 216. That's right, 1985! I wish they still built them like that.Farway said:

We bought a bungalow a few years ago with the most amazing garden. It had a greenhouse, workshop, 2 ponds, and separate veg garden. We were advised to just keep it tidy for a year so we could see exactly what we had in it. This was good advice as every season was exciting to find out what we had. The crowning glory for me was finding over 100 bright red tulips
