Glad they managed to un-lose it!

They perhaps did find out it was worth more and were perhaps hoping that you didn't know it was worth more and would be ok with the "we have lost it have a refund" route! We shall never know...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I can't imagine if the auction house is really that reputable that they would even consider doing something underhanded.  It  could easily ruin their reputation and business if it was made public.  And certainly they wouldn't do it for a one off gain of what is likely pocket money to them.

Maybe an employee stole it and they recovered it - I would think that happens in a lot of businesses frankly.  I know it happens regularly in retail establishments.

I tend to confer - but what do I know? I didn't actually say that reputable. Perhaps I should have (NB pinkshoes) inserted presumably here.  :)

Excellent result!  I hope it arrives safely and brings much enjoyment.

    True.
When I was an auctioneer I was occasionally accused of nefarious activity, often arranging "plants" to bid, other times switching labels on boxes. None of which happened, as you say if you get a reputation for it then you lose custom. The accusations were usually down to bidders not paying attention.

There have been cases of reputable auctioneers who have themselves been embezzled/stolen from, so even if there is a genuine issue it may not be as it seems.
