    Hovering over Report The User gives an email link to:

    unrecognized.suspicious.activity@googlemail.com <unrecognized.suspicious.activity@googlemail.com>;

    Very unlikely Microsoft would use a Google email address 😄
    That aroused my suspicions.
    A man walked into a car showroom.
    He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
    Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
    The man replied, “You have now mate".

    On the broader point, never click on links from an unexpected source.  Find the official Microsoft, or relevant site and use the Contact Us address.
    She does know that which is why she asked me what to do about those emails. I was unsure so I thought it best to seek advice before doing anything.

    She has changed her password and nothing appears to be amiss so, genuine or not, we will just ignore them.

    If they are malicious it is most likely that she hasn't been individually targeted but is just one of thousands or millions of users being spammed.

    If they are genuine then I am sure Microsoft will cope without any input from us.

    Thanks everyone. Your responses are appreciated.  :smile:

    We detected something unusual about a recent sign-in to the Microsoft account XXXXXX@hotmail.com
    Sign-in details

    Something else to check is that the sign-in didn't create any email Rules in Hotmail.  If people report seeing strange emails from you it may be because a Rule (or Rules) have been added unbeknown to yourself.
    If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

    Good advice if there had been an actual dodgy sign-in. In this case there wasn't, the email is just saying there was in order to provoke link-clicking.
