If you are with SCOTTISH POWER, and your energy rates are about to go up, this might help: Having decided NOT to fix our rate before the Ukraine war, I enquired about what options are now available when our fixed rate expires in April. I was shocked to find that the payment would go up from £119 to £478 per month. a 400% increase. It was not possible to find the DEFAULT VARIABLE rate online to compare this with. Eventually, after much searching, I found a number to call and was advised that they don't publish the DEFAULT rate online, but only give this to you if you call them. This enquiry resulted in a rate of £213 per month instead of £478. In case it may help you, the phone number I rang was 0800 027 0072.

Welcome to the forum.Scottish Power's default variable rates are likely to be very similar to EDF's, at least for gas and single-rate electricity (E7 may vary). You will find EDF's rates for all regions here:

Scottish Power have some very expensive fixes right now. If you really want a fix then check out other options.0

The number you were given is SP's main contact line. Not sure why they said tariff information wasn't available online, I've always checked
https://www2.scottishpower.co.uk/tariff-information.process?execution=e1s1
for tariff information, bearing in mind that is based on present time. It can change day by day and will not be showing the April price increases yet. Are you sure the person you spoke to you was giving you the new April prices and wasn't consulting this tariff information page?
I had a similar experience when I phoned to get new fixed tariff (in January and got a good price). I asked what the standard variable rate would be and was told they couldn't tell me as they didn't 'sell' the variable rate. It was automatic if you weren't on a fixed rate.

You're right there. I jumped off my existing fixed rate 2 months early in January, against the advice of the SP agent I spoke to (and the advice elsewhere to DO NOTHING). On my usage, the early exit would have cost £90.
I've just looked at the present 2 year cheapest fix and the difference is:
January rate: SC 24.95p, Low rate 18.41p, High rate 20.39p
March rate: SC 51.37p, Low rate 38.21p, High rate 55.49p
On my usage, this would cost me an extra £73 a month and would have a £100 exit fee, whereas my fix has no exit fee
The present Standard Variable Rate would also be higher for me even before the April increase.0
