I would go with an ever -so-slight grey, almost off white. That would make the sofa stand out and I feel a bolder colour on the wall would make the room look too busy

I agree. Tones of that blue that isn't blue.
But it's really difficult to judge for someone else.
    Stronger personalities may suggest muustard.
A lot depends on who you are. Do you have any finished rooms that reflect your taste?

There are some good suggestions here including a slightly different tint of terracotta that looks lovely against a blue sofa. Color wheel - a complete guide to color theory and how to mix colors | Homes & Gardens | (homesandgardens.com)

I also think something like a terracotta would be gorgeous. How about this lovely Dulux colour copper blush, it's similar to terracotta but slightly toned down and a little pinky

Maybe I've been watching too much of Alan Carr's interior design competition, but are you thinking of all the other elements as well? Positioning of the couch (at the moment, it's pushed up to the wall), lighting, other furniture in the room? Re colour, I think if you want to make the couch highlighted, you probably want the rest of the room to be fairly similar tones, but a different tone from the couch. (Caveat- I'm definitely not at expert at this!)

Anything but grey!  It is so old hat now and always has been cold, dull and boring. That terracotta looks lovely by the way.

That terracotta looks too dominant for me, it drains the colour out of the sofa.
The paint should take a back seat to furniture with a strong colour and this blue is lovely. It should have something to enhance it.
I'd go for what your favourite colours are, the ones that make you feel good and see which matches best.
Always remembering that you can highlight one or the other with cushions.
Use one of the colour sets - there are a number on the net - then you can see if what you think of is right or not

Terracotta is the complimentary colour to that blue.  It couldn't highlight it better if it wanted to.
