Bought a new house but can’t open the window wide? Is this a restricter? How do I disable it if it is? Thank you.

Sort of
It may have seized up from lack of use but seems like it should have come out more.
Have you tried spraying with WD40, poked around a bit to see if something is stuck there?
Do you have a window doctor in your area?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Does it open smoothly and easily until that point? And then stop dead? With a clunk?

Can't wait to hear the outcome...
Mauly?
Sometimes distorted frames make the opener's side foul the hinge mech when it's opened, but this would feel more like a scraping-stop rather than a firm clunk. And easing the frame sideways should allow it to continue.0 -
Don't want to hi-Jack the thread, but I have the opposite problem. Is there anyway to restrict a window's opening? We replaced windows last year, with the front bedroom now having one large opener. It's a bungalow and I've realised that anyone sleeping there in a hot summer is going to be extremely uncomfortable or we risk easy access for an intruder. The window we replaced had a large top-hung opener, apparently not allowed now.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

@mauly_2, if it is similar to my window's pressing upwards on lever indicated by F B opens window fully and then can be rotated to cleaning position where latch will engage again holding steady while window is cleaned.
If it has not been open fully for a while this is good time of year to lubricate slider's.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -

If the opener has been designed for emergency egress, fitting a restrictor goes against building regs. Many uPVC windows allow you to crack the window open and lock it in place with the handle (certainly, the ones I've had fitted recently do).

I thought that slight opening only applied to the small window. I'll get O H to try it.This window is designed for him. I could get through a small one. Hope I never have to, mind. 😄Member #14 of SKI-ers club
