Green energy bill!
Options
Last year my electricity taken over by Green energy without my consent. After many, many emails I was informed that I no longer had an account. Later on in the year I was contacted by Shell energy saying they had taken all Greens costumer and I was now a customer of theirs! Strange though that all this time I had still been paying Octopus for my electric/gas!
I contacted Octopus and they very kindly sorted all this out and, as far as I was aware, I was now free of Shell/Green having been refunded by Octopus to be able to pay Shell.
I have now received a bill from Green's administrators saying that I now owe them.
I would be very grateful for any advice regarding this. Have I already paid this bill through Shell or is this separate, as far as I can see there doesn't seem any way to check.
Thank you in advance.

You will need to ask Green’s Administrator for a ‘prove it’ statement. Sadly, failed suppliers are no longer under Ofgem jurisdiction so The Energy Ombudsman cannot intervene where there is a dispute. When suppliers are both trading then the basic rule relating to erroneous transfers is that the consumer should be put back into a contract position pre the erroneous transfer, and all monies are paid to the existing supplier as if the transfer had not taken place. The two suppliers impacted by the erroneous transfer will then resolve any payment issues between themselves.1

I would suggest telling them that there was an erroneous transfer which was corrected last year so there should be no charges of any kind in relation to that period.

See if we understand this. You were a customer of Octopus when an erroneous transfer to Green took place. You reported this to Octopus who started the process of correcting the situation. Before this was completed Green went belly-up and your Green account was transferred to Shell. Are you still with Shell? You say Octopus refunded you so that you could pay Shell. This will take a bit of unravelling, starting with knowing who is now your supplier.

I missed this bit first time around...If this was an erroneous transfer that was reversed to return you to Octopus, you should have received a full refund from Green so you could pay Octopus, not the other way around.Do check if you are still with Octopus or if the SoLR process has incorrectly switched you to Shell...https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/moving-home-your-energy-supply/find-out-who-your-gas-or-electricity-supplier-is/

To me this sounds like you were with Green (not going into rightful transfer or not at the moment) until they went down, and than with Shell, but you never paid either of them, instead you continued to pay Octopus.
Octopus refunded you now the money you paid to them and you used this money to pay Shell.
For what time did Shell send you an invoice, only since they have taken over or also for the time you have been with Green?
Can you post a copy of the bill you paid?
