ill health retirement

Hi... I'm stuck.....
I'm. Thinking of applying for ill health retirement thro my work... DWP.
I've contacted our TU and my civil service pensions but none can help. If applied and granted. And then the amount I would receive isn't enough to live on then I know I can retract it however my work can then dismiss me for then being unfit for work.
So.... Basically.... I'm an administrative officer approx £21,000 per year at present... I joined in October 2006 and was on the premium pension and now on the alpha pension (as of a few yrs ago)..... I know via the "retirement modeller" on civil service pensions website what I would get if normally retirement at age 60 etc etc but can't find anywhere where I can find an estimation of ill health retirement pension and a lump sum I believe too.....
I only know of the lower and upper tiers but still no Values of what I would receive....

Please can someone help...
Kind regards

See https://www.civilservicepensionscheme.org.uk/knowledge-centre/pension-schemes/alpha-scheme-guide/claiming-your-pension-section-05/ill-health-retirement-section-05d/ which explains how the alpha bit is calculated.

For your time in Premium, see https://www.civilservicepensionscheme.org.uk/media/xpbmmdkw/ill-health-retirement-benefits-for-classic-plus-and-premium.pdf

This confirms that for more information and advice about specific benefits, you should contact yourMyCSP Pension Service Centre. Have you done so - and if you have, in what way could they 'not help'?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Have you asked MyCSP why they can't help? Have you raised the possibility of ill health retirement with your employer?

If MyCSP operates like the LGPS then they won't quote for a possible ill health retirement.  There are too many variables/tiers,  to say nothing of the possibility of the ill health claim not being approved.  Just too dangerous - if not cruel - to waft a shed load of enhanced pension numbers under the nose of someone who may not qualify.

Marcon.... I will try Money helper on Monday......
Yes... I've spoke to Mycsp... Yes they provided me with the processes but can't do any estimations on what I would get in a lower or upper tier IHR pension...
The only person or dept I've mentioned this too is our HR dept and well they said speak with your manager, which I have not done yet. (is that OK too do you think).......

    Silver tabby... Cheers for that.......

Kim1965.... How come. Your asking that..... All I wanna know... The possible estimates of both the lower tier and upper tiers in IHR via the dwp who I'm with... If it does not give me. Enough too live on then no point applying for IHR.. hence the above...... Even tho I have varying degrees of  health problems
    ..
Ranging from muscoskeltal.which ahve got worse To stress......
  • Are you in a Union? Before I applied for IHR, I sought their informal advice and they gave me a heavily caveated but useful estimate of what any IHR lump sum and annual pension would be under Classic terms (plus potential enhancement) for service  until 2015, then lower and upper tier under Alpha for post 2015 service.

I’m still on sick leave pending my IHR application and I’ve since gone onto Sick Pay at Pension Rate having exhausted my OSP and …….. the rate I am being paid is a few quid short of what my Union ‘bod’ calculated it would be on lower tier Alpha! Their ‘estimate’ was pretty good.

Hi Mrs Brooks...... Yes it is PCS... fat lot of gud they are, not...
Here's my. Reply...I got from them...

    Hi Paul

I am afraid that PCS cannot help you with this specific request, as we do not provide financial advice or offer financial calculations. In any event, it would not be possible to estimate the exact level of IHR compensation you might receive, as it would depend on a variety of factors to do with the nature of your ill health condition, your accrued pensionable service, your salary and your age. Additionally, the employer will not always offer you 100% compensation under the rules of the scheme, and again we could not estimate if it would or would not in your own particular circumstances.

The only way to find out what the exact IHR compensation award would be is to request IHR and to provide medical evidence that your health conditions “permanently prevent” you from working in your current job or a similar role, i.e that you would not be able to do this until at least your Normal Pension Age, which is 60 for the Classic and Premium Pension Schemes, 65 for Nuvos, and 67 for Alpha. If the Scheme Medical Advisor considered that you could, in fact, continue working in your current role despite your health conditions, then he/she would not agree that you should have an IHR award.

I am sorry that I cannot offer more to assist you.

So there ye go...... No help...
