    Yes indeed, how can wages have increased by 8.3% when the public sector, which accounts for around 30% of those employed received less than 3%

    I thought the 8% was an anomaly because of furlough.
    Some people stayed working through out and got a normal low rise or none at all.
    Others were put down to 80% of salary and then returned back to 100% after furlough, so that shows in the statistics as an increase of 25% (if taken from furlough period to non-furlough) or 6% if taken over a whole year (3 months at 80% plus 9 months at 100%).
    That is all then averaged across everyone earning a wage and the statistics spew out the 8% answer.
    The reality is no-one actually got an 8% pay rise.
