Hi, Please can you advise? I don’t understand if we need a structural surveyor or a building surveyor, or other.

1906 property. We had work carried out in our loft over the years, including new timber joists with noise insulation fitted between them and topped with nailed down boards (old ceiling joist left in situ). We want somebody to examine the floor work as we are unsure if it is suitable for converting into a habitable room (it is currently for storage only), although in 2018 the joiner who completed the work assured us that it was safe, we trust him but want to be sure and hopefully gain something in writing that it is built to building regulation standards. We hope to add stairs if it is safe as it is currently accessed by a hatch with a pulldown ladder.

Can you advise which trade that is more suited to examining and providing something in writing for the floor?

Thank you.
