Repair work to chimney via insurance claim but builder needs paying

The chimney to my property was damaged and I presented my insurance company with quote from the builder that was most professional sounding, and they agreed to fund the work for me. The builder did the work and presented me with an invoice at the weekend which I have sent to the insurers. I had initially been told by the insurers that once they received the invoice from me there would be a 2 day turnaround before the funds were in my account , but the two days passed yesterday and the money hasn't arrived and the building company are pressing me for payment. When I rang the broker dealing with it he seemed to have neglected to pass the invoice over to whoever it was supposed to go to.
I did make it clear to the builders at the beginning that I would have to make a claim on my insurance and did not authorise the work until the insurance company gave me the go ahead. The insurance company are now saying that I should have the money by this weekend but the builder is pressurising me to pay him now. The builder never asked for any money up front and the invoice does not refer to any time frame in which it needs paying. So I do feel for him and his company, but I don't have sufficient funds to cover this myself.
My question is - am I right to wait for the money to come in from my insurer before paying the builder or should I somehow try to find the money to pay them now (by taking out a loan, for instance)?

My roof claim was £8,500 so I definitely couldn't have paid the roofer before the insurer's cash settlement reached my bank account. I had to wait five days for it to clear.
Has the money cleared now?

The builder does not have a contract with the insurance company. Whether you have been paid by them or not has nothing to do with the builder, and does not alter your obligations to the builder.
