Please someone shine some light on this for me.
So we have stupidy appointed a solicitor not local to us due to having such an amazing MB we went with one he found on sort refer so he would make a little extra from it. HUGE MISTAKE I WONT MAKE AHAIN
Anyway, mortgage offer received on 15th December and conveyancer appointed that day. Fast forward 14 weeks to today **sigh** and he is now querying our deposit. We have a relatively small deposit of 20k that has LITERLLY been sat in savings since march 2017. It was originally transferred into the savings account from our current account when we were initially going to buy but we didn't at the time and now we are. So it's just been sat there ever since. Not grown nor shrunk. Anyway, 3 days ago the solicitor requested 3 months statements to show proof of it. No problem, sent them to him immediately only for him to reply that he needed to see the funds building up. I phoned him and said that these are savings we've literally had for years but he wanted more. I've managed to go back to the date they were transferred into that savings account and sent him 3 months prior statements showing it in our account so he now has statements dating back as far as 2016.
Are people not allowed to just have savings sitting idol? Are we automatic criminals if we don't waste our money? Or at least I'm being made to feel like one.
My question is, where will this end? I sent these statements yesterday morning and havent heard from him again which is usual for this solicitor, i go weeks not hearing anything. Im an absolute mess with buying this house and 14 weeks on surely enough is enough now. It's a simple purchase no chain either side so shouldn't be taking this long and I'm so frustrated by it all.

How far back do you have the bank records? Maybe providing them back to when the money came into that account and the account prior would make it work. Have you tried talking directly to the bank about it? While we had to supply a letter about the source of money to buy our house that was all that was required. Nothing extensive.
Maybe you need to set a deadline for this solicitor and say that if things aren't resolved you'll need to raise a complaint to the firm/governing body/someone.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
