IHG Credit Card

Hi

This might be a daft question...

I have an IHG credit card, and the points are 2 for each pound spent abroad, however this incurs a 2.99 card fee.

I am due to go to America this year, and could pay for another groups hotel etc, bringing the spend to say £5,000.  This would cost around £150 in fees, but is it worth it?

You need to know what your points are worth to know if it's worth it.

It's unlikely with schemes like this.

Exactly as per the above - it's a meaningless question without knowing what the points are worth.  Once you've established that, it's a simple bit of maths to work out if the value of the points exceeds the fees.
If the points have no monetary value, then you need to work out how many points you'd earn, what you are able to exchange them for, whether the available exchange items are something you'd actually need anyway, and whether it still works out cheaper than the fees.

Unless you value an IHG point as worth at least 1.5p, the answer is no it's not worth it.
