New build boiler

We moved into our new build in 2018 and generally have very few issues. Fast forward 4 years and we have had a problem with the boiler not working, showing an error code. Its been serviced every year and we registered it with the manufacturer upon moving in. The manufacturer have been out under the warranty and repaired the faulty part however the engineer advised that the is a problem with the flue being damaged upon installation and if this isn't repaired the same problem will occur again.

As this was 4 years ago and the new build warranty is generally only structural during years 3-10, is it too much to expect the house builder/boiler installer to come and inspect and repair or will this be something we will have to fund ourselves?

Thanks

You can ask the house builder to repair it. Essentially, you'd be asking for a 'gesture of goodwill', as your builder's warranty has expired.

I suspect that the house builder will refuse - but you never know.

Out of interest, what is the issue with the flue?

Has the boiler manufacturer said they won't repair it again under warranty, unless the flue is fixed?

I think you would need an independent report showing the damage was due to poor installation and has been present from the start.
You may need to have a fight on this but you need to be able to show the issue was present from the start.
They may counter with why you took no action sooner to claim however.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.

Why has the problem suddenly flared up now? It doesn't sound very convincing as having been caused by an inherent mistake at the time of construction.

We'll wait for the OP to respond.

But I had an issue with a flue where the boiler manufacturer said a flue was badly installed, so it let in rainwater in very windy/rainy conditions. It gradually corroded parts of the boiler over the years, until one day a lot of water got into the PCB and it blew.

Thanks all, The engineer from the boiler manufacturer stated that the flue seal had been cut/teared upon being installed causing water to leak into the boiler and corrode the faulty part which was themostat limit. He did replace the part and clear the faulty it but said the warrantly only covers the boiler and not the flue so he is unable to touch that part.

Other than this we have had no other issues with the boiler to date and have not had any reason to contact the company in regards to the warranty which still has 4 years left on it. My concern was that should the same fault occur again, will the company then refuse to come and fix due to us previously been advised of the problem.

Yep - it's quite possible that the manufacturer will refuse to fix it again, as it's caused by a faulty installation.

When I had a similar problem, the manufacturer took an even tougher position. They refused to fix the boiler at all, until the faulty flue was fixed.

But it might not be a particularly big job to replace a torn seal.

Thanks for the info. Will contact the developer as see where we go from there.
  • I would be surprised if the developer even entertains this but its worth a try.
