So as of this morning due to Symbio going bust and being mover to Eon Next we owe £414 on our Eon Bill with our new 2 year fixed rate due to start with Eon Next 1st April.

We know exactly what we use each year (electricity only with air source heat pump) and this equates to £175 per month for a 4 bed detached hours on our new fixed deal.

However as we have a £414 debit EON next want to charge us £210 per month from April.

Anyone had any dealings with Eon Next as they are new to us but if I ring up and explain we know our exact yearly usage. We will give them the £150 as soon as we get the energy payment in April and that £200 will come off the bill in October and we throw in an extra payment of £70 as well will they keep us on the agreed £175 a month?

Hope that makes sense welcome people thoughts.

  • Sounds about right to me  .
Your payment should be around £210 until you have paid the £150 and any extra payments .Only then will you be able to probably reduce the direct debit through your online account.
You cant expect them to agree to keeping the direct debit at £175 until you have paid the other amounts  into the account ( they might even reassess it themselves ).

Cool yeah will have a chat with them before the April payment goes out on the 28th as I will have already put in an extra £220 by then by way of the £150 council tax rebate and £70 top up. So the debit will be under £200 which is what the account will receive in October with the (energy loan scheme)

It will be interesting to see what they agree to

Are you actually getting this C/Tax rebate up front ?? Some Councils are taking an amount off the regular monthly payment. eg 12.50 pm over 12 months

Are you sure? They're not supposed to be doing that. It needs to be paid directly to you; although the rules only seem to say "starting in April" so the payment might not actually come until late April or possibly later.

It isn't a council tax rebate. It's an energy payment, that's being delivered using the council tax mechanism.

There really is no scope for that within the published guidance to the Councils...

The guidance is clear that the full amount should be paid as early as possible and in any event by 30 September at the latest.

I can see many council phone lines being swamped with "where's my £150" if it's not in their account during the first week of April.

I think most people are assuming it would arrive 1st April.

TBH, I wasn't sure until you posted that...so I won't hold my breath.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

That would make sense.  Also would give them some up front money in the coffers to make the payments.

They are getting the money paid in full by the end of March from the Treasury.
