LV car insurance licence issue

Something which may affect some of you.

I am a named driver on my partners car insurance .
He has just renewed it and received confirmation from LV saying that as My driving licence had expired i was not allowed to drive on his insurance .
I applied to renew my licence in October 2021 as I turned 70 in January 2022. I have received confirmation that my online application has been received  and when I go onto the DVLA it says my application is in progress .
It is now 5 months since I applied  and still no licence .
I have emailed , phoned , written  but it is impossible to speak to a real person.
If anyone else has the same problem I suggest you contact your insurer to check you are still insured  especially if you are with LV.
I am with Direct line and they understand there are delays  and continue to provide insurance.

If you already had a photocard licence, and easily had proof for any medical questions, then you could do yours online. I suspect the OP was in a position where they had to apply by post.

Have you checked your licence online? They may have issued on and it's lost in the post.

  • I have checked online and it says in progress

The conditions which are listed at the end of the online application show that you are still permitted to drive while the application is being processed. Copy the confirmation you received at time of application and send to the insurance company.
My online renewal arrived within 3 days.

Try phoning as soon as lines open so you are at the start of the queue. Start dialling just before the time.
