New Lawn
Options
Hi. we recently bought our bungalow and renovated it last year, this year it is time to work on the garden. It was mainly paved with an area covered in membrane with golden gravel surrounded by varius trees, most of which we have removed. We have had a patio laid now and want to replace the gravelled area with lawn. We have worked very hard to remove as much of the gravel as we can and taken up the membrane however the gravel had spilled over into the side borders which we also want to lay to lawn most of,and had split in areas so the gravel has been engrained into the soil. We are currently working on turning over the remaining soil and aeriating it. Our issue now is that there is still a fair amount of gravel and fine roots from the trees mixed in with the soil but if we buy any more topsoil to cover it then it the finished lawn will be higher than the patio. Do you think we will be able to lay turf over the soil we have now? It looks fairly decent otherwise and is probably about 5 inches deep - just mixed with the gravel.

Turf sounds like the answer, and I wouldn't worry too much about the gravel mixed in, it will help with drainage, in fact some even dig gravel into heavy soilYou may need to keep on top of the watering this year but you will soon get to know if required or notEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1
