Woodworm treatment quotation

I’ve been provided a quotation for woodworm treatment at my property (bungalow) of just over £1500 for chemical (water based) treatment of the underfloor and attic space from a local specialist.

The floor space is around 100m2, easy access is available through the basement to the underfloor. For the attic space there is also easy access though a loft room with carpeted tiles and eaves access through a separate door (insulation will have to be pulled back for the treatment).

Work comes with a 30 year guarantee with the option of insurance backed guarantee at an additional cost.

Do the above costs seem reasonable for the scope of work? I’ve been advised a 10 year insurance backed guarantee can be added for an extra cost.

What makes you think you have an active woodworm infestation ?

The little blighters go for damp timber and really don't like dry seasoned wood that you normally find in a house. And if you are seeing holes, it means the bugs have flown the nest - Unless there is fresh frass, the holes could be ancient.

We have a lot of sharpish edged pinholes and what looks like fresh frass across the joist in the loft space.

Any ideas? Perhaps from someone who had a similar treatment complete?  :)

This might be a bit left field but one year I saw what I thought were fruit flies on the windows, on closer inspection I noticed they were small beetles. This flat is circa 1880 so all the floorboards are super dry. I did however discover a wooden bobbin of a roll of wire had been completely eaten and was full of the standard woodworm sized holes, also an open bag of suet pellets for bird feeding untouched for a while had also the same sized holes. There was no infected furniture brought into the house , I do have the windows open often in summer so perhaps I had a hungry visitor from next door where extensive building works were carried out that year. In conclusion this happened for one year only so perhaps a one off as there are woodworm holes in some floorboards which look to be older than myself.
