Cannot get energy contract! Please help...

Options
Hi there,

We've had an energy problem and are now without energy in our property. We have had to hire a generator to make things work. All of this has happened due to a mis diagnostic by SSE where they ripped our energy meter off our house and have taken it away. As a result of this, we are no longer SSE's customer. Now no energy supplier is offering new customers. Can you suggest a few suppliers that will offer energy please? We contacted EON whom have now backed out on offering us energy.

That is an extremely unusual action for an energy supplier to take - I think some more information is required before anyone can help you.
  • When Storm Eunice hit the UK, we were left without electricity and hot water. We called out SSE our energy supplier and they told us that there was some illegal wiring done to our house electricity and then said that the Meter was not one of theirs so ripped it off our house. A job was booked in that day to correct the wiring work. Three weeks later, when SSE came to do the work, the SSE rep did another diagnosis of the job and said that the wiring is NOT illegal and the SSE representatives shouldn't taken our meter. The day the meter got taken away, SSE's contract with them was automatically cancelled. Now, we have no electricity other than what the generator can provide and no energy supplier is willing to take on new customers due to what's happening with electricity and now we also have no meter due to SSE's mis-diagnostic. EON said that they are also no longer taking on new customers. Can you suggest a few suppliers that will offer energy please?

It does all seem a bit odd.

British Gas seem to be the only one at the moment for domestic supply, from other people's posts it seems the current wait is 8-12 weeks.

I would write to SSE - not phone - headed Complaint.

They are the cause of your problem and they can solve it - even providing an unmetered supply while they get to the bottom of this. The only issue I can see is that they would normally require an electricians test certificate before connecting the supply.

EDF say that you can join on their Standard Variable tariff but only if you phone them.

Just because SSE removed your meter does not stop them beinging your supplier, that only occurs when the supply is disconnected i.e. cable and main fuse removed. Check who your network operator is, contact them and they will tell you who the supplier is.
