I wasn’t sure where to move this as wasn’t clear if it was a motoring issue or an insurance issue.

I'd say that this is as good a place as any for this, motoring people will have experience of RAC warranties. Having said that, there is so little information in the OP that I can't see much help forthcoming.

Surely a service history proves only that the car has been maintained - not that it has been maintained to a high standard.  I guess one  caveat could be that a history with a franchised dealer should carry more weight.

Not really.  You can get a cheap oil change and they will stamp the book. Ahh its due the xyz service we change the oil and filter and
the air filters and fuel filters etc etc etc....   Owner says no thanks change the oil and stamp my book.

They find many faults but the owner declines the work. Stamped book is not proof of top level servicing and care. Then you
get the pre stamped books for sale.

Aftermarket car warranties are designed not to pay out on anything, if they can possibly find any excuse not to.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Warranties are there to give the customer peace of mind to buy the car. The motor industry buy them to help sell cars. Pity the customer then finds that they will never pay out. They also create confusion so the customer ends up not getting what they are legally entitled to from the garage. The garage tells you to claim on the warranty. The warranty says it's not covered talk to the garage.

There are some conditions on servicing for RAC warranties.

Needless to state there are plenty of ways to invalidate their warranty when it comes to servicing.

    9. Servicing Requirements

To ensure the validity of this Warranty Your Vehicle must be serviced in accordance with any one of the following options:

    Servicing Requirement Option A

If Your Vehicle has an up-to-date and full manufacturer’s service history from first registration, You must continue to service Your Vehicle in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations and servicing intervals throughout the Cover Period; or

    Servicing Requirement Option B

If Your Vehicle has had a service in the last 6 months prior to the date of Warranty purchase, You must service Your Vehicle every 12 months or 10,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of the most recent service, throughout the Cover Period; or

    Servicing Requirement Option C

If Your Vehicle has not been serviced in the last 6 months prior to the date of Warranty purchase, You must service Your Vehicle within 14 days from the date of Warranty purchase to be entitled to obtain any benefits provided under this Warranty. Failure to meet this requirement will invalidate this Warranty. Should You fail to meet this requirement, You must contact the Administrator immediately to cancel Your Warranty and receive a full refund of the premium paid by You.

Additionally, You must continue to service Your Vehicle every 12 months or 10,000 miles (whichever occurs first), throughout the Cover Period.

    Please note:

Only service invoices will be accepted as proof of servicing and such invoices may be required by the Administrator at the time claims are made.

A bona fide VAT-registered garage must carry out servicing. It is Your responsibility to establish Your Vehicle’s servicing requirements and to adhere to them.

Failure to do so will invalidate this Policy.

Years ago, when secondhand cars were mostly sold by garages with a workshop and mechanics, not just a dealer with a showroom, garages used to give 3, 6 or 12 months guarantees, NOT warranties that they covered themselves as their trained mechanic had assessed and checked the vehicle.

These days with all the electronics and systems on modern cars (with many issues only able to be diagnosed and repaired at much expense by a main dealer) it is simply to risky to warrant themselves so they include a cheap external warranty that looks good to the customer but is most likely not worth the paper it's printed on.
