Decking finish.

Mil has just bought a bungie with a reasonable decking area, but which has a dreadful redy-brown coating on it, which the estate managers admit was the 'wrong stuff'.
It's flaked off in parts, but reasonably well stuck in others.
Anyhoo, I've always recommended 'oil' as the best finish as it soaks in and nourishes the timber, but it won't work here due the the existing coating. I'm thinking that anthracite colour would look amazing (the ext walls are a yellow/buff colour), and this should also obliterate the existing.
Thoughts on best 'coating' product for this, please?
Cheers

Jetwash and a good scrub might get back to bare(ish) wood and you can start again.
Sounds like they may have used fence product, often designed to repel water so not a great surface for alternatives.
Might be a job that you start, clean up, make good, single coat, then wait deals on suitable products end of summer to begin the make it really good for next year and stock up for continuing refresh each year.
Wilko, wicks as well as the sheds often have deals

Thanks GM4L.Yes, I'd normally go 'oil' every time, but I can't see it happening in this case. It's not only the existing finish - which I'd pretty certain isn't all going to come off - but also that they've replaced parts of some rotten boards, so we also have new timber to contend with. What stuff they've used, it's now nicely weathered, so I'm reasonably confident - but will try a patch - that 'restore' will adhere ok.Yes, it'll be fully jetwashed, then Everbuild Lumberjacked, and finally coated. This is just mil, so it isn't going to get much abuse
I might check out dark grey 'oil' too, but it's a bit too expensive to buy just to try and see if it'll obliterate the differing finishes already on there.0
