The statement they make that they calculate your energy for next 6 months will cost £1252 is misleading as others have explained. This includes £507 (£85pm) of arrears, the energy itself is estimated at £709 (£118pm). When you have been paying £203 for 6 months you will have paid off your arrears, and you can request that the monthly amount is reduced to something like £120. Even now you could make a counter offer to spread the arrears over 12 months, by paying a monthly amount of £161, of which £118 would be for energy and £43 for the arrears.
