Oddly enough, I've had exactly the same from Scottish power. I was paying £88 per month on their Online Fixed 2022. I'm in credit. My fixed tariff ends on 23/4/22. They have offered me to switch to 3 new tariff's each costing £380 per month (a four fold increase??) I know exactly how much I use and it's been consistent for years at 4000kwh for electricity and 11000kwh for gas.
FYI the on the capped variable rate from April to October your consumption of 4000/11000 will cost around £2200/yr, £185/month.
This is expected to rise in October but no-one can say how much by; I would however be shocked if it doubled (which is what it would need to do to get close to the SP £380/month offer).

I’ll check with her I know she’s not on a variable rate cos they told her she could end up paying more.
As everyone else has said, fixed rates are generally more expensive than variable at the moment and many of the current fixed rate offers are higher than October's variable rate is likely to be (although no-one can be certain about that).

Yes, I was offered fixed tariffs for one and two year terms. I'm wondering if they are hedging the expected cost increases and trying to build that in by over egging it and erring on the safe side. So they could end up overcharging you and you'd get that back in the end a year or two down the line. It is one hell of an increase per month so I think I'm going to go onto their standard variable and go from there.
Another reason to not go for an expensive fix with Scottish Power is that the terms of at least the ones I've checked give them the right to end the contract any time they choose with 42 days notice. So if they did end up losing out as prices change anyone could well end up back on the SVT anyway.
The sneaky so-and-so's! I'd not spotted that - though I'd not looked further than their sky high rates and £100 early exit fees!

That's what I was calculating it around so I was sort of dumbstruck when they offered £380 a month. My usage isn't liable to change (unless we enter an ice age) and its been consistent for years. Now I'm astute enough to spot this and before posting was looking at going onto the SVT but I do fear for those that don't spot it or are unaware. A four fold increase is ridiculous and those energy companies should be ashamed of themselves for touting it.
