High Electricity bills

Bills will take a bit longer to sift through, will get them up as soon as I can1

Using an instantaneous electric shower will be very expensive because day rate Economy 7 is likely to be even more expensive than single rate. As you're not using storage heaters at the moment, E7 is unlikely to offer any benefits.Consider asking whether you can be billed at single rate (at least for the summer) without a meter change, many suppliers happily offer this (but not Bulb), and make sure you're on the capped Standard Variable Tariff for the time being.0

Thats reading 48166 and rate 2 - press the "Cycle Display" and you will get a rate 1 (night I assumed) reading.
Give them both to your supplier.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Meter currently shows 48166 and R2. So probably R2 is the daytime rate . .
Edit -- Robin9 beat me to it.

Hi just got another bill through, this is what they are claiming I am using:
 From 25th November 2021to 18th February 2022
 Day energy 45992 - 47776 = 1784kWh @ 22.64p
 Night 52284 - 53480 = 1196kWh @ 14.82p
So now, this last month, bearing in mind, I have been switching things off religiously for the past couple of months:
 From 19 Feb 2022 to 16 March 2022
 Day. 346kWh
 Night 132 kWh
How can a router a fridge and a tv on standby use up 4kWh of electricity a night? When night before last the meter only ticked over 1kWh, mind you so did the day one.

Do you know for certain what hours your 'night' rate covers?0

Hi yes, they have agreed to put in a check meter in series. But looking at the estimated bill after the price rises they are expecting my usage to be 7891.85 kWh this year and cost £2494.86 a year. I think I'm going to have to cut my losses and move out. There is no way I will be able to pay thatGerry1 said:Don't get the meter checked unless you have good reason to believe it's faulty, which is actually quite rare.Stop thinking in ££ and DD amounts, think instead in kWh from actual meter readings.Start by doing a Meter Sanity Test.If you still suspect a problem, ask whether they will agree to fit a check meter in series. That may well be far cheaper than a formal meter removal and laboratory check, which would be quite expensive and very likely be a waste of money if it was found to have been accurate.0

I can't see anything like that on the bill, though today's meter readings are:Robin9 said:
