Internet connection changed on tablet

Options
Good morning all
I have an Acer Windows 7 laptop (circa 1896) & an android tablet (about 5 years old) wireless linked for the internet. Over the last few days the connection for the internet keeps disconnecting on the laptop.  I have noticed that the connection has changed from Fleur Telecom 603B C3 to 603B C3 5G & with 10 or more other options showing.  I can't find what the laptop is showing. I thought 5G was something to do with mobile phones.
Being a dotty old lady who doesn't have a clue what goes on under the bonnet I am hoping sks could explain to me whats happened here.
Many thanks in advance.

5G could mean 5 GHz wifi
Your old laptop may only support 2.4 GHz.

To fix this, you probably need to get into your router and checking the settings.

By the way, before start messing with the settings, the first thing to do is switch off/ unplug the router, then wait for 1 min and plug it back.
This usually solve some connection problem.
  • Looks like you have Fleur Telecom as your broadband supplier. They are a smaller outfit and as such should be offering a good level of customer support to justify their premium (ish) pricing. Try giving them a shout https://fleurtelecom.co.uk/get-in-touch-2/

If the laptop tends to stay in one place, and that place is close to the broadband router, you could buy an Ethernet cable of suitable length and hard-wire / connect by cable the laptop to the router - the problem will go away then.

Thank you all - I think I'll give Fleur a call - That's an easy option & I have found them very helpful in the past.  I was shoved over to them from Talktalk (had been with them for yonks)  because we are in a very rural area that TalkTalk didn't want to bother with for some reason.
