PS3 - Monitor?

I am treating our 22 year old son to a PS3 for Xmas to celebrate his graduation (or is it not having to keep him any longer!) He would like to treat himself to a 32" LCD, but I am not sure he can do that immediately. What else can be used with the PS3.

1 A normal TV?
2 A normal PC monitor?

I have a 19" digimate DVI monitor, and will not be using it for a couple of months so was considering lending him that. Do we have to have a DVI to HDMI lead, or will the normal monitor connection work? I have googled and it seems to say I need audio lead as well (there are built in speakers in the Digimate monitor).

I don't want Xmas morning to be here and nothing for him to play it on, we do not have a LCD either.

Thanks

  • It should do ok, if you use the normal monitor connection, then you will need an audio cable, 3.5mm to 3.5.mm dirt cheap from virtually anywhere. I would recommend HDMI to DVI

A normal TV would do too, but obviously you wouldn't get the benefit of a digital connection

    hey donny-gal,

i bought a ps3 a couple of weeks ago and was using it with a normal crt tv, its fine it just uses scart to connect rather than an hdmi cable.

Although i got my new 37" Evesham 1080p lcd tv delivered today and i linked the ps3 up with hdmi and it was amazing! if you want the best out of a ps3 then an HD tv is the way to go, but if like me you dont have that luxury at first then by all means it works absolutely fine on a normal tv.

    hope this helped

I'd go for a HD TV and use HDMI connection.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Yes so would he, but after just leaving uni, and working away from home, I am glad he is being sensible.

  • Not all LCD monitors will work with PS3. It needs to be HDCP compatible monitor.
